Whistle Museum of Vicenza

There are many great overlooked museums in Italy and one of them is the Whistle Museum of Vicenza. Following our visit to the Museum of Musical Instruments in Rome, the whistle has certainly caught our imagination.

One of the earliest instruments, they were first notable in Italy in terracotta form from the Etruscan & Roman period.

To give it is correct name, the Museo dei Cuchi in Cesuna di Roana in the province of Vicenza features many 'fischietti'

The museum holds a collection of more than 10,000, not just from Italy but from all over the world. The most popular form is the bird whistle.

Whether to attract birds of just imitate them we're not too sure, but the whistles come in the form of nightingales, sparrows, swans, peacocks and fantasy birds straight our of the imagination of the time.

Having done the museum, you have to do the {jb_brown}Whistle Festival or 'Sagra del Fischietto Popolare' {jb_brown}in Canove di Roana.

It takes place every 25 April in honour of San Marco.
