  • Casatiello, Neapolitan Easter Pie recipe

    Published in Campania Recipes
A classic rustic Easter dish originating from Naples! The ingredients for casatiello represent in some way Easter itself; salame, pecorino cheese and above all the eggs fixed into the pie with a cross of pastry. The casatiello pictured above was made by Pasticceria Franco Sepe in Naples. You can eat it cold or hot. We prefer cold and it is ideal for the picnic on Easter Monday or Pasquetta. For more information turn to www.casatiello.it where we read that 100g of the pie contains 390 calories!   ingredients 1.5 kg. of flour, 50g of yeast, 3 boiled eggs, 100g of…

Carnival Zeppole di San Giuseppe recipe

Published in Campania Recipes
Zeppole are our favourite carnival sweet, well, not exactly a carnival sweet as the full name is Zeppola di San Giuseppe in honour of the Saint on the 19 March every year. Two varieties are prepared; either fried or oven cooked. Both are lavishly filled with thick cream and topped off with cherry syrup, jam, chocolate and even Nutella.   ingredients This is the most classic of zeppole recipes using…

The recipe cannot be written on a piece of paper. It is innate, spiritual, comes from the heart. But for the record here is…

Baba al Rum

Published in Campania Recipes
The sugar level content of this famous Naples dessert clearly betrays its Arabic origins and the lemons of the Amalfi coast give it a flavour all of its own. Making it at home could be a huge disappointment, but there's no excuse for not giving it a go. The image of the rum babas was taken by Delicious Italy at a delightful pasticceria in the town of Marina di Camerota, province of Salerno. The owners explained to us how they had moved from Naples some years ago to live in this resort town along the Cilento coast. ingredients 350gr white flour,…
