Description

Pentecost Palio at Piazza Ariostea. This wonderful celebration goes back to the 13th century and 800 characters with typical costumes belonging to the eight town neighborhoods take part in it. In the afternoon, after a rowdy, colorful parade, a variety of manifestations take place including banquets, musicians, flag waving demonstrations and a donkey race. Then, of course, there is the palio itself which is a hair raising, thundering race through the city streets on bareback horses. The one is less famous than other palios but, perhaps, even more charming because it takes place in the setting of a pristine, almost unchanged Renaissance town. The beautiful city itself is reason enough for a visit. www.paliodiferrara.it
