Description
Saint Bernardino's Day. This is the little southern town from which Agostino Coppola, the grandfather of the famous American director Francis Ford Coppola, emigrated from years ago. Coppola says that in his film The Godfather III, he recreated this Berlanda festival from the stories that his father Carmine had told him a hundred times. The director still has relatives here including his Aunt Maria who usually cooks up the traditional meals of the area like pasta with stringbeans and cheese-and-parsley doughnuts. There's a big lottery between the local residents to decide who will carry the statue so get there early enough to throw your name in the hat!

Annual Events in Italy
In this section we are compiling a list of Italy events which occur more or less on the same day on an annual basis.
They have been grouped by theme and behind each link is a description of the event, its location, as well as external links to help you plan further.
You can also find an event from the calendar below.
The list is by no means exhaustive, but they are events we know and recommend. With special thanks also to Dan Hostetler for giving us permission to adapt some of his original texts.
