Your vessel - the 'Caicco Salato'
The luxury yacht or Caicco is officially named 'Caicco Salato' in honour of the family of captain Mario La Torre. Salato in Italian means salt and Mario's grandfather loved salt so much in his food the word 'salato' became a sort of family nickname.
Mario himself is an experienced sailor and adventurer having twice in 1993 single handedly crossed the equator in the Indian Ocean Born in Tropea and brought up in land locked Bologna, the lure of the open sea was always too much for Mario.
Departing from Tropea in his first yacht the 'Serena', he decided to not exit the Mediterranean via the Straits of Gibraltar and navigate the Atlantic Sea, but head east through Suez into unknown waters.
An experience which found him rescuing camels in a mine field along the Eritrean coast and spending Christmas in jail in Dubab, Yemen, accused of being a spy. Following his return home Mario decided to take life more tranquilly and set up the first charter vessel in the port of Tropea.
He sold the Serena and bought the 'Salato', a handsome teak and mahogany two master which is your home and base for the fabulous luxury Aeolian cruise.
Mario and his wife Valentina run the cruise with extreme enthusiasm and have made this a trip of a lifetime for their guests. Valentina's love for cooking is evident in her candlelit dinners on board. All meals are prepared by her and offer the freshness of seasonal organic ingredients. Given the excursion takes place in the islands of Sicily , meals are mainly of sicilian origin.
