The Grand Hotel delle Terme di Stigliano is set in its own wonderful grounds in the Roman countryside and is a great choice for anyone seeking a spa break in Italy close to Rome.
The Botanic Gardens of Stigliano are actually listed in a network called Grandi Giardini Italiani (Great Italian Gardens) which also includes Villa d'Este in Tivoli and Boboli Gardens in Florence.
You won't be the first to discover this luxuriant corner of Lazio. The Etruscans considered the local waters sacred, while the ancient Romans built their baths here under the Emperor Tiberius and called them 'Thermae Stygyane'.
Although now in ruins a replica Roman Steam Cave has been built on the spot. Guests can enjoy this therapy aimed at relaxing the muscles and aiding the cardiovascular system.
The full history of the location is fascinating and can be read in full here.
ROOMS
All the 46 rooms of the Grand Hotel have a view of the gardens. They are situated either in the 18th century main building or annex.
Each room has been furnished with old world charm reminiscent of the Grand Tour, but with modern comforts such as air conditioning, safe, satellite TV and internet access.
DINING
Il Ninfeo is the restaurant of the hotel and serves traditional regional and international dishes with a varied wine selection. During the warmer months both lunch and dinner can be enjoyed on the terrace.
The restaurant can also cater for meetings and formal or informal events, as can the halls and grounds whose spaces make them ideal for workshops, incentives and team building activities.
The park also features a small church dedicated to Saint Lucia where weddings can be held.
