The hotel in a 15th century palazzo once owned by composer Gioacchino Rossini. It is 150 yards from the main Duomo or cathedral and 500 years from the main railway station, as well as a short walk to the Uffizi Gallery.

There is also parking available, the hotel is ideal for small groups and families.

The buffet room features frescoes from the original palazzo and is the ideal place to plan your sight seeing of Florence in the morning or mid afternoon.

Interestingly, Hotel Casci was the first hotel in Florence to feature hot and cold running water in all its rooms. This was in the late 1920's when it was owned by Mr Casci himself.

The original via Cavour also used to be called 'via degli Spadai' which literally means 'Swordsmith street'.

The road was lined with workshops and forges and soon attracted the interest of the Medici family who made the street their own, renaming via Larga or High street.

From old sketches and prints the owners of Hotel Casci have established that the building was already standing in the 15th century.

Given its location on via Larga and so close to the Medici Palace, it must have had noble origins.

The coat of arms above the main entrance is another indication, and the design resembles that of the Earls Ughi. The back part of the building was also a convent.
